Mr. Dershowitz, please consider the pit into which you have descended.

Alan Dershowitz is an atheist. He has contributed to Free Inquiry. Sadly though, since 9-11 he has become a frightened child and pathetic apologist for torture and neoconservative foreign policy. He's also a secular Jew who now finds himself writing, "There are some who claim that torture is a nonissue because it never works–it only produces false information. This is simply not true, as evidenced by the many decent members of the French Resistance who, under Nazi torture, disclosed the locations of their closest friends and relatives."

Atheism and White Power

Vjack has a good post about why secular humanism is important and should be more important to atheists to add moral guidance to atheism. If an atheist rejects secular humanism, you have to ask why. What do they find objectionable to the secular humanist philosophy?

Atheist Revolution: "The inescapable conclusion is that some nonbelievers are white supremacists and that white supremacists are at least tolerant enough of nonbelievers to provide a dedicated space to discussions of atheism and agnosticism. I suppose this can serve as a reminder that atheism entails nothing about morality and simply refers to a lack of acceptance of the theistic belief claim. Just because someone is an atheist doesn't mean that he or she will be any more (or less) moral than anyone else. Secular humanism, on the other hand, involves a system of morality that seems difficult to reconcile with racism. As we move beyond religious delusion, we need secular humanism and need to make it clear that hate is unacceptable."
