More on Abraham Lincoln: A mixed bag at best.
Lincoln Supported Slavery:
(Lincoln said,) "I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of bringing about in any way the social and political equality of the white and black races."
So the next time a Republican throws out the well-used "fact" that Lincoln was the first Republican President and was against slavery and therefore, see, Republicans aren't racists or homophobes or the party of the wealthy, you can calmly correct them.

Abrham Lincoln, Socialist
Republicans - Please Take Back Your Party:
"Labor," Lincoln wrote, "is prior to, and independent of, capital. Capital is only the fruit of labor, and could never have existed if Labor had not first existed. Labor is superior to capital, and deserves much the higher consideration."

George Soros and Richard Mellon Scaife
Scoobie Davis Online: "Article of the Day:The Difference between George Soros and Richard Mellon Scaife"
Scaife: Billionaire Right-Winger working to thwart liberal democracy. Bad thing.
Soros: Billionaire Left-Winger working to preserve and enhance liberal democracy. Good thing.
It's really that simple.

The Institute on Religion and Democracy
The Institute on Religion and Democracy
While it sugar-coats its mission with words like these:
Even today, the triumph of democracy is far from assured. In our own society, cultural trends are sapping the virtues and institutions of “civil society” necessary for democratic life. These worrisome trends include an extreme emphasis on the autonomous individual, the elevation of rights over responsibilities, a hostility toward definitive moral standards, an excessive dependence upon the state to solve all problems, and the cultivation of divisive identity politics. Perhaps the most serious threat to American democracy comes from the fragmentation of the family, the building block of society.
it's clear that what the IRD is trying to do is to destroy politically liberal religious groups and make all religious institutions into bastions or right-wing politics. This is a SCARY organization!

The postmodern parable of Ron Reagan
SBC Baptist Press - FIRST-PERSON: A The postmodern parable of Ron Reagan
His appearance at the 2004 Democratic National Convention is but the capstone of his efforts to associate the Reagan name with ideas and principles at odds with his father's.
Does this mean that Ron Reagan has no right to use the name Reagan when expressing opinions contrary to his father’s? Does Ronald W. Reagan own into perpetuity the sole right to offer opinion while being named Reagan?
Though Ron claims to be a registered independent, he acknowledges that he did not vote for George W. Bush in 2000, and now says he will support "any viable candidate who can defeat Bush" in 2004. He has indicated plans to vote for Sen. John Kerry.
For you see, truly independent voters vote Republican always. If an “independent” voter votes Democratic, he’s then a partisan Democrat.
Put simply, Ron Reagan is famous only because he is the son of one of the nation's most beloved presidents.
However, George W. Bush owes absolutely nothing to his family name
How could a son stand at such odds with his father's deepest convictions and political principles? This is a question that should haunt not only political analysts, but all fathers.
Tragically, Ron Reagan rejected the legacy of his own father and failed to embrace his father's core convictions.
After all, it is universally established that holding opinions that your parents do not is immoral.

Satan's Work
Magret Cho turns it around on the fundies. Girl, I say unto you, Go! I don't really believe in Satan, but it's a great metaphor and shows how the fundies' stance can be at once self-contradictory.
I think that these people who claim to do God's work are actually working for the Other Guy. Satan likes it when people are motivated by their own prejudice. The Horned One gets all happy when someone is being oppressed or unduly punished. The Dark Lord loves injustice. These so called family advocates and Christian groups are really doing the Devil's Work. I hope they enjoy being pawns for Lucifer.

A good bit on the tiresome Conservative demonization of and browbeating with the term political correctness.
